What this trial studies
This observational study aims to create a national cohort of patients with rare skin cancers, specifically Merkel cell carcinoma, advanced basal cell carcinoma requiring systemic treatment, and cutaneous adnexal carcinoma. It will collect comprehensive epidemiological, clinical, and socio-economic data from 37 French centers to better understand these conditions. The study will also identify new prognostic factors and evaluate the impact of various treatments on patient outcomes through a centralized database.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with histologically confirmed Merkel cell carcinoma, advanced basal cell carcinoma requiring systemic treatment, or cutaneous adnexal carcinoma.
Not a fit: Patients without the specified rare skin cancers or those who refuse participation will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of rare skin cancers and improve treatment strategies for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on individual types of skin cancers, this comprehensive national cohort approach for these specific rare cancers is relatively novel.
