What this trial studies
Hospitalized adults undergoing wound dressing will be randomly assigned to listen to music of their choice during the procedure or receive standard care without music. Participants must be 18 or older and clinically stable, and those who are pregnant, have severe hearing loss, cognitive or language barriers, or require urgent medical intervention are excluded. The investigators will compare stress levels and patient-reported experience between the two groups using validated measures collected during and after the dressing change. The intervention is low-risk, delivered at bedside, and could be implemented broadly if shown to help.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are hospitalized adults (≥18) who are clinically stable, able to hear and communicate, and scheduled for routine wound dressing changes.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or lactating, have severe hearing impairment, cognitive or language barriers, or who are clinically unstable may not benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If effective, offering music during wound dressing could lower procedural stress and make dressing changes more comfortable for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Similar music interventions have reduced anxiety and pain in other procedural settings, so this approach has supportive evidence though it is less studied specifically for hospital wound dressing.
