What this trial studies
This mixed-methods pilot tests a brief music therapy program for nursing staff in the emergency department of Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá. Quantitatively, participants will complete the HUMAS (Healthcare Professional Humanization Scale) and ProQOL (Professional Quality of Life) questionnaires before and after eight sessions delivered over four weeks. Qualitatively, focus groups will explore participants' experiences and will be analyzed using thematic analysis. The study is designed as a feasibility pilot to inform larger trials and potential implementation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are emergency department nursing staff at FSFB who have worked there at least six months, can attend eight music therapy sessions over four weeks, and can read study questionnaires.
Not a fit: Those with untreated mental health disorders, staff unable to commit to the session schedule, or non-emergency nursing personnel are unlikely to benefit from this program as designed.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could lower burnout and stress and help nurses maintain empathy and a stronger sense of purpose in emergency care.
How similar studies have performed: Small studies and pilot programs have suggested music therapy can reduce stress and improve well-being among healthcare workers, but evidence is limited and heterogeneous.
