What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of muscle energy techniques and stretching exercises in alleviating symptoms of piriformis syndrome in working pregnant women. The study involves a randomized allocation of participants into two groups, one receiving muscle energy techniques and the other engaging in stretching exercises. Treatment sessions will occur twice a week for a total of twelve sessions, with evaluations conducted using pain rating scales and functional assessments. The goal is to determine which approach better reduces pain and improves lower extremity function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are multiparous women aged 25-45 in their second trimester of pregnancy with chronic low back pain and specific physical symptoms related to piriformis syndrome.

Not a fit: Patients with negative straight leg raise tests, skin allergies, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, or a history of lower extremity fractures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective non-invasive treatment options for pregnant women suffering from piriformis syndrome.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes using similar muscle energy techniques and stretching exercises for pain relief and improved function, suggesting this approach may be effective.
