What this trial studies

This study focuses on the use of a multidisciplinary team to assess and prescribe antithrombotic therapy for older patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. The team, consisting of geriatricians, cardiologists, neurologists, and hematologists, evaluates the medical profiles of patients to suggest the most appropriate antithrombotic treatments. The primary goal is to measure the impact of this approach on all-cause mortality, ischemic events, and bleeding events over a period of three months, with secondary evaluations at six months. The study aims to address the high risk of adverse drug events in this vulnerable population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 75 years or older who have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and are hospitalized in participating geriatrics units.

Not a fit: Patients who oppose data collection for research purposes will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce adverse drug events and improve outcomes for older patients with atrial fibrillation.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using a multidisciplinary team is established in various healthcare settings, the specific application to antithrombotic therapy in older patients with atrial fibrillation is relatively novel.
