NA · Chang Gung University of Science and Technology · NCT07045376

What this trial studies

This interventional program delivers a four-week multi-strategy evidence-based educational training on surgical smoke to operating room nurses at one hospital and compares outcomes with nurses receiving standard in-service training at another hospital to avoid cross-contamination. Eligible nurses are formally employed for more than three months, provide informed consent, and have internet access for program components. Outcomes focus on changes in knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors related to electrocautery/surgical smoke and are measured before and after the intervention. Assignment is by hospital (experimental site versus control site) rather than individual randomization.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Operating room nurses formally employed for more than three months who are willing to consent and have access to a mobile phone or computer with internet are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Operating room nurses in training, interns, part-time students, those on parental leave, or those without internet access or with less than three months' employment are excluded and may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could increase nurses' use of protective practices and reduce staff and patient exposure to surgical smoke.

How similar studies have performed: Previous educational interventions for healthcare workers have improved knowledge and protective behaviors about occupational hazards, though multi-strategy programs specifically targeting surgical smoke are less commonly reported.
