Monitoring glucose levels in kidney transplant patients after surgery

Prospective Observational Study for Efficacy of Perioperative Serum Glucose Level Evaluated by Continuous Glucose Monitoring System in Kidney Transplantation Patients

Seoul National University Hospital · NCT06012799

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to utilize Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) to track glucose fluctuations in kidney transplant recipients and predict the onset of New-Onset Diabetes After Transplantation (NODAT). It will investigate how medications and surgical procedures, particularly immunosuppressants and steroids, affect glucose variability in these patients. By observing these patterns, the study seeks to identify factors that influence blood glucose levels, contributing to improved management strategies for kidney transplant patients in the future.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are kidney transplant recipients aged 18 and older who have undergone the procedure at Seoul National University Hospital since March 2021.

Not a fit: Patients who have had multi-organ transplants or previous kidney transplants will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better management of blood glucose levels in kidney transplant recipients, potentially reducing the incidence of diabetes post-transplant.

How similar studies have performed: While continuous glucose monitoring has been used in various contexts, this specific application in kidney transplant patients is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
