What this trial studies
This study focuses on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who experience acute exacerbations. It utilizes wearable mobile technology to remotely monitor vital parameters such as oxygen saturation and respiratory rate, aiming to detect and predict exacerbations early. By tracking these health metrics at home, the study seeks to reduce hospitalizations and improve patient outcomes. The approach addresses a significant gap in monitoring COPD patients outside of clinical settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who have been diagnosed with COPD and require hospitalization.
Not a fit: Patients with a previous diagnosis of asthma or those who do not own a smartphone may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier detection of COPD exacerbations, potentially reducing hospitalizations and improving quality of life for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile health technologies for monitoring chronic conditions, indicating potential success for this approach.
