What this trial studies

Fifty-four adults with radiographic Grade II hip osteoarthritis and at least six months of pain will be allocated into three groups to receive either modified clamshell exercises, standard clamshell exercises, or conventional exercise programs. Interventions target hip abductor strengthening to improve pelvic stability, reduce compensatory movement, and enhance functional outcomes. Outcomes will include patient-reported function and symptoms using the HOOS-12 and objective measures of strength and range of motion. The trial is conducted at a single center in Lahore with supervised exercise delivery and follow-up assessments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 45–60 with radiographic Grade II hip osteoarthritis and persistent hip pain for more than six months, able to attend the Lahore site and without major cardiac or other lower-extremity pathologies, are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with more advanced hip OA (KL Grade III–IV), recent lower-extremity surgery, significant cardiac disease, or other excluded comorbidities are unlikely to benefit from this specific intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could reduce pain and improve hip strength and day-to-day function for people with Grade II hip osteoarthritis.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research supports hip abductor strengthening and clamshell-style exercises for improving symptoms in hip and knee OA, but the specific modified clamshell technique in this trial is less extensively studied.
