Mobile perioperative education with video pelvic floor training after radical prostatectomy

The Effect of Mobile-Based Perioperative Education on Urinary Incontinence and Erectile Function After Radical Prostatectomy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Not applicable Interventional Giresun University · NCT07520916

What this trial studies

This randomized controlled study assigns men scheduled for elective radical prostatectomy to either a mobile-app intervention plus routine care or routine perioperative care alone. The app delivers structured perioperative education, video-assisted pelvic floor muscle training, reminder notifications, and follow-up support. Outcomes (urinary incontinence and erectile function) are measured before surgery, after catheter removal, at 1 month and at 3 months using validated questionnaires including the ICIQ-SF and IIEF-5. The trial tests whether the mobile program improves early functional recovery and quality of life after surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Men aged 18 or older with prostate cancer scheduled for elective radical prostatectomy at the study center who can use a smartphone and give informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with pre-existing urinary incontinence or erectile dysfunction, prior major pelvic surgery or radiotherapy, severe sensory/cognitive impairment, or inability to use the mobile app are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, patients could regain urinary continence faster and have better erectile function while accessing guidance remotely, reducing travel and clinic burden.

How similar studies have performed: Previous mobile health and pelvic floor training programs have shown promising improvements in post-prostatectomy urinary continence, although evidence for improving erectile function is more limited.
