What this trial studies
This study evaluates the JoyPop mobile mental health app designed to support youth aged 12-17 who are on wait-lists for mental health services in Northwestern Ontario. The app aims to improve emotion regulation, a critical skill for adolescents facing mental health challenges. Participants will receive the app alongside usual mental health practices, with the goal of providing accessible support during their wait for services. The study is conducted in partnership with St. Joseph's Care Group and Thunder Bay Counselling Centre.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are youth aged 12-17 who are on wait-lists for mental health services at designated centers.
Not a fit: Patients who are not on wait-lists for mental health services or who do not have access to an iOS device may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could provide timely mental health support to youth, potentially reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile applications for mental health support, indicating potential success for this approach.
