What this trial studies
This study evaluates the usability and acceptability of a caregiver intervention app called Brain CareNotes among unpaid Hispanic caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. Over 10 months, 40 caregivers will be randomized to use either the Brain CareNotes app or an education-only control app. The study aims to identify the met and unmet needs of caregivers and assess barriers to accessing dementia care resources. Data will be collected at 3, 6, and 12 months to measure usability and acceptance.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are unpaid Hispanic caregivers of community-dwelling individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias who are English literate and at least 18 years old.
Not a fit: Patients who are permanent residents of extended care facilities or those with impairments preventing the use of mobile devices may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide culturally tailored support to improve the management of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia for Hispanic caregivers.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar culturally tailored interventions, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this population.
