What this trial studies

This study evaluates a self-administered, video-based mobile app intervention designed to reduce mental illness stigma and medical mistrust among Black adults experiencing moderate to severe depression or anxiety. The intervention leverages the concept of positive contact with individuals with mental illness to improve health outcomes and address health inequities. Participants will engage with video content aimed at changing attitudes and beliefs about mental health. The study focuses on a demographic that has been historically underserved in mental health care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black adults aged 18-45 who have been diagnosed with or experience symptoms of depression and/or anxiety and own a smartphone with internet access.

Not a fit: Patients with severe mental health conditions such as psychotic disorders or those experiencing severe suicidality may not benefit from this study.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

1. If you identify as Black American or Black immigrant
2. Experience or been diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety
3. Age 18-45 years
4. Own a smartphone with internet access
5. Have not seen a psychiatrist or therapist in the last 12 months or have not been in routine healthcare
6. English speaking

Exclusion Criteria:

1. Visual, hearing, voice, or motor impairments that would prevent engagement in study procedures,
2. Diagnosis of psychotic disorder or severe suicidality for which participation would be inappropriate.
