What this trial studies
This study aims to develop and validate a mobile app called 'Health in Mobile' to help individuals with chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes adopt healthier behaviors. Utilizing Motivational Interviewing, the app will provide support through instant text interactions and predefined messages tailored to users' situations. The study will involve 1600 participants from three District Health Centres, with 1200 receiving the app intervention and 400 in a waiting list control group. The goal is to assess the effectiveness of this mobile health approach in promoting behavioral changes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are community-dwelling individuals aged 45 to 75 with chronic diseases such as hypertension or diabetes who have access to mobile technology.
Not a fit: Patients with type 1 diabetes, severe cardiovascular or other serious health conditions, or those with psychiatric or neurological disabilities may not benefit from this study.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * 1) pass the cognitive screening test indicating low risk of mild cognitive impairment and depressive moods; * 2) age 45 to 75 years; * 3) completed primary school education or above; * 4) has a considerate level of information literacy access to mobile phones and tablets; * 5) agree to participate in the study and provide informed consent. Exclusion Criteria: * 1) participants with type 1 diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, metabolic syndrome, maturity-onset diabetes of youth, or gestational diabetes; * 2) clinical diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, liver disease, malignant tumour, or new-onset diabetes after organ transplant; * 3) participants with a psychiatric or neurological disability
