Mobile app for assessing physical and cognitive function in older adults
An Objective Assessment Tool for Evaluating Functioning in Older Adults
Stanford University · NCT06489847

What this trial studies
This research focuses on developing a mobile application designed to enhance physical and cognitive assessments for older adults, particularly those with Alzheimer's Disease and Mild Cognitive Impairment. The app will utilize the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) to evaluate lower extremity function and mobility, providing real-time performance scoring and facilitating frequent assessments. By automating these evaluations, the project aims to improve monitoring of cognitive decline and enable timely interventions tailored to patients' needs. The study will involve consenting participants who will engage in video data collection on the Stanford campus.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are proficient in English and consider themselves healthy.
Not a fit: Patients with limited physical mobility or those who do not consent to video data collection may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could provide a more accessible and efficient way to monitor cognitive and physical health in older adults, leading to better management of Alzheimer's Disease.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of mobile applications for health assessments is growing, this specific approach utilizing the SPPB in the context of Alzheimer's Disease is relatively novel.
