What this trial studies

This study evaluates the safety and feasibility of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Collaborative Surgery (LECS) as a less invasive treatment option for patients with advanced gastric cancer who are not candidates for traditional gastrectomy due to age or comorbidities. LECS involves marking the tumor from within using a gastroscope, followed by laparoscopic removal under endoscopic guidance. The goal is to alleviate complications such as bleeding or obstruction caused by the tumor while minimizing surgical trauma. This approach aims to improve the quality of life for frail patients suffering from advanced gastric cancer.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with advanced gastric cancer who are not fit for gastrectomy and have specific tumor characteristics.

Not a fit: Patients with Borrmann type 4 gastric cancer or tumors located in the cardia may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a safer and less invasive option for patients with advanced gastric cancer, improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While LECS has been used in case reports for palliative treatment, this is the first prospective trial investigating its use for advanced gastric cancer.
