What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of three different formats of a brief, 3-minute audio-recorded mindfulness intervention for patients experiencing foot and ankle pain. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of four groups: one receiving pain coping information, one practicing mindfulness alone, one receiving an introduction to mindfulness followed by practice, and one receiving both pain and mindfulness introductions along with practice. The aim is to assess the clinical effects of these interventions compared to a control group receiving psychoeducation about pain.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older seeking treatment for foot or ankle pain at the University Orthopaedic Center.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, current cancer diagnoses, or other unstable illnesses may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a non-pharmacological approach to managing foot and ankle pain, enhancing patient coping strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While mindfulness interventions have shown promise in various pain management studies, this specific approach is novel and has not been extensively tested.
