What this trial studies

This clinical trial involves a randomized control design with five different mindfulness interventions delivered through an app to patients scheduled for knee or hip replacement surgery. Participants will engage in 5-minute audio-recorded mindfulness practices at various times surrounding their surgery, specifically 7 days before, 2 days before, 2 days after, and 6 days after the procedure. The goal is to assess the impact of these mindfulness techniques on pain, anxiety, and depressive states in surgical patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for total joint arthroplasty of the knee or hip.

Not a fit: Patients who cannot read English or have cognitive impairments that prevent them from completing study procedures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could help reduce pain and anxiety in patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While mindfulness interventions have been explored in various contexts, this specific approach for surgical patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
