What this trial studies

This intervention aims to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of a new program that combines mindful eating techniques with motivational interviewing to assist individuals struggling with binge eating. Participants will be randomized into two groups: one receiving the full Mindful Motivation intervention and the other receiving only digital meditation as a control. The study will involve online questionnaires, body composition measurements, and daily meditation practices over an 8-week period, with follow-up assessments to track changes in weight and glucose levels. The program is designed for both community members and UCSF graduate students who meet specific criteria related to binge eating and weight.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are overweight and experience significant distress from binge eating episodes.

Not a fit: Patients who are experienced meditators or have engaged in formal meditation practices in the last three months may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide a novel approach to reducing binge eating behaviors and improving overall health for individuals with overweight.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of mindful eating and motivational interviewing is innovative, similar approaches have shown promise in other studies targeting eating behaviors.
