What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of Metacognitive Training (MCT) Minus, specifically designed to address negative symptoms in individuals with schizophrenia and related disorders. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on positive symptoms, this intervention aims to reduce persistent negative symptoms such as social withdrawal and avolition. The study will assess the impact of MCT Minus on patients' functioning and symptomatology, providing a scientific basis for its efficacy. Participants will receive either MCT Minus or supportive counseling as part of the intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 with a clinical diagnosis of schizophrenia, delusional disorder, or non-affective psychosis residing in specific regions of Sweden.

Not a fit: Patients with severe organic brain dysfunction, learning disabilities, or those unable to communicate in Swedish may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the quality of life for patients suffering from negative symptoms of schizophrenia.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on MCT Minus for negative symptoms, the need for effective interventions targeting these symptoms has been recognized, indicating potential for success in this novel approach.
