What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of Metacognitive Interpersonal Therapy for Eating Disorders (MIT-ED) in treating various eating disorders, including those affecting underweight individuals. Participants will receive up to 40 individual therapy sessions, either in-person or via videoconferencing, while their progress will be monitored through assessments at multiple time points. The study aims to determine if MIT-ED can improve eating disorder symptoms, reduce dropout rates, and enhance overall emotional regulation and self-esteem. A total of 64 participants will be recruited from specialized treatment centers in Italy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and over with a diagnosed eating disorder within the past six months and a BMI between 17.5 and 40.

Not a fit: Patients currently receiving other psychiatric or psychotherapeutic treatments or those with severe coexisting psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve treatment outcomes for individuals with eating disorders and reduce dropout rates.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in treating eating disorders with focused therapeutic interventions.
