What this trial studies

This experimental study will enroll 60 first-time mothers in the first stage of labor at a tertiary hospital in Adana, Turkey, with 30 women receiving a meditation intervention and 30 serving as a control group. Participants will provide informed consent and complete pre- and post-intervention measures of childbirth self-efficacy and fear using validated questionnaires. The meditation will be delivered during early labor and outcomes compared between the two groups to determine immediate effects on confidence and fear. Data collection is planned between April and August 2025.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are primiparous women aged 18 or older with a singleton, low-risk pregnancy who present in the first stage of labor and can give informed consent.

Not a fit: Women with high-risk pregnancies, multiparous women, those with psychiatric diagnoses, or those who already use meditation during labor are unlikely to gain benefit from this specific intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could help first-time mothers feel more confident and less fearful during labor, potentially reducing stress-related complications.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies of mindfulness, relaxation, and hypnobirthing techniques have shown some promising but mixed effects on childbirth fear and coping, and applying meditation specifically during the first stage of labor is less well studied.
