Measuring skin pigment and its correlation with Fitzpatrick skin types
Correlation Between Objective Skin Pigment Measurement and Fitzpatrick Skin Type

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to correlate subjective skin pigment measurements reported by patients using the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale with objective classifications obtained through Individual Typology Angle (ITA) measurements. The Fitzpatrick scale, developed in 1975, categorizes skin color to estimate responses to UV light and assess skin cancer risk. By incorporating objective measurements, the study seeks to enhance the accuracy of identifying a patient's Fitzpatrick skin type across a diverse range of skin tones.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include males and females aged 18 and older with Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain skin conditions or recent tanning history may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the accuracy of skin type classification, leading to better skin cancer risk assessments and personalized dermatological care.
How similar studies have performed: While the Fitzpatrick scale is widely used, this approach of integrating objective measurements is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
