Measuring liver blood flow in healthy children using ultrasound

Ultrasound Measurements of Hepatic Vasculatures and Hepatic Doppler Assessment of Healthy Children

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to establish normal ranges for the sizes and flow patterns of the hepatic vasculature in children, taking into account factors such as age, weight, height, and gender. Participants will undergo clinically indicated ultrasound examinations, followed by additional Doppler assessments of the hepatic artery, hepatic vein, and portal vein. The study will utilize a Philips EPIQ 5G ultrasound machine to gather quantitative and qualitative data on liver blood flow dynamics. The findings will help create a robust reference for normal liver measurements in pediatric patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 18 years or younger without any history of hepatobiliary or cardiac diseases.

Not a fit: Patients over 18 years of age or those with known hepatobiliary or cardiac pathologies will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide essential reference values for diagnosing liver-related conditions in children.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature on liver measurements, this study aims to provide a more comprehensive and age-corrected normal range, making it a novel approach.
