Measuring intracranial pressure using non-invasive eye scans
Estimation of Intracranial Pressure Using Non-invasive Fundus Videos

What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to evaluate the ability to detect intracranial pressure (ICP) through a non-invasive retinal fundus scanner that captures images of the eye's vessels. By measuring the diameter of the arteries and veins, a ratio is calculated and compared to traditional ICP monitoring methods, such as fiberoptic intraparenchymal and intraventricular monitoring. The goal is to develop a safer, non-surgical method for monitoring ICP, which currently relies on invasive techniques that carry risks of complications. This study could pave the way for improved patient care in neurosurgery and neurology.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who require ICP monitoring and are conscious and able.
Not a fit: Patients who are disabled, unconscious, or do not require ICP monitoring will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a safer, non-invasive method for monitoring intracranial pressure in patients.
How similar studies have performed: While non-invasive methods for ICP monitoring are currently lacking, this study represents a novel approach that has not been extensively tested in similar contexts.
