Measuring core body temperature using oesophageal probes

Accuracy of Core Body Temperature Measurement Depending on Oesophageal Probe Tip Location

Not applicable Interventional Institute of Mountain Emergency Medicine · NCT06370676

What this trial studies

This study investigates the accuracy of core body temperature measurements obtained from oesophageal probes, focusing on how the location of the probe tip affects temperature readings. The research aims to determine whether incorrect placement of the probe can lead to misleading temperature values, which is critical for managing severely hypothermic patients. The study will involve volunteers with specific health criteria to ensure reliable data collection and analysis. The findings could enhance the protocols for temperature measurement in emergency settings.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy volunteers aged 18 to 75 with an ASA score of 2 or lower.

Not a fit: Patients with ASA scores above 3, those under 18 or over 75, pregnant women, and individuals with certain medical histories may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the accuracy of core body temperature measurements in hypothermic patients, leading to better clinical decisions and outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, the importance of accurate temperature measurement in hypothermia management has been supported by previous research.
