What this trial studies
CaBooM is an observational project that seeks to identify and characterize biomarkers reflecting the relationship between energy intake and energy expenditure. Adult participants will attend visits at the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle and provide biologic samples and physiologic measurements to link signals of intake and expenditure. The study combines clinical measurements with laboratory analyses to search for consistent markers of caloric balance. Results are intended to inform future diagnostic tools or targeted interventions for metabolic health.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who can travel to the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, speak English, and provide informed consent are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People under 18, prisoners, those unable to provide informed consent, or those who cannot travel to Seattle are not eligible and are unlikely to benefit from participating.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this work could enable tests that more accurately measure energy balance and help personalize nutrition or weight-management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Related observational biomarker studies have identified candidate metabolic signals but few have produced validated, widely adopted markers of whole-body caloric balance, so this approach builds on partial prior work and remains exploratory.
