What this trial studies

This study investigates how different types of external cues can help improve movement in patients with Parkinson's disease by using advanced brain mapping techniques. Participants will perform movement tasks while their brain activity is recorded through EEG and MRI to identify the neural circuits involved in movement facilitation. The research aims to understand the brain mechanisms that support improved movements, which could lead to new neuromodulation therapies for symptoms that are difficult to treat, such as freezing of gait. The study will involve 60 patients with Parkinson's disease and 30 healthy controls, with each participant undergoing two sessions of testing.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 years old diagnosed with Parkinson's disease exhibiting at least two cardinal features.

Not a fit: Patients with dementia, active hallucinations, or contraindications to MRI will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to targeted therapies that significantly improve movement in patients with Parkinson's disease.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using brain mapping techniques to understand movement disorders, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
