What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of manual therapy techniques for athletes suffering from osteitis pubis, a common condition among those engaged in sports requiring rapid directional changes. The study aims to compare the outcomes of a high force hip lateral distraction technique against a placebo technique to assess improvements in pain and range of motion. By utilizing a randomized controlled trial design, the researchers will gather data on the efficacy of manual therapy in alleviating symptoms associated with this condition.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are athletes diagnosed with stage 1 osteitis pubis who have experienced symptoms for at least three months and have limited internal rotation range of motion.

Not a fit: Patients with hip pain due to intraarticular pathology or inflammatory diseases, or those who have had previous surgical interventions in the hip, pelvis, or lumbar spine may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide athletes with a non-invasive treatment option to alleviate pain and improve mobility associated with osteitis pubis.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing evidence for conservative treatments for osteitis pubis, the specific application of manual therapy techniques in isolation remains novel and untested.
