What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial assigns hospitalized women with missed abortion to either a mandala coloring session plus standard care or to standard care alone. The mandala session lasts at least 30 minutes and is delivered during the hospital stay. Outcomes include self-reported stress, state anxiety, and pain, plus physiological measures (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and body temperature) recorded at admission and immediately after the session. Participants must be adult, literate Turkish speakers without significant chronic medical or psychiatric conditions and physically able to complete the coloring activity.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adult women (18+) hospitalized with a diagnosis of missed abortion at ≤10 weeks gestation who are literate Turkish speakers and mentally and physically able to participate would be ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Women with physical limitations preventing coloring, chronic medical or psychiatric conditions, a history of prior pregnancy loss, or who cannot read Turkish are excluded and may not gain benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this simple, low-cost, noninvasive activity could reduce emotional distress and pain and help stabilize vital signs during hospitalization for missed abortion.

How similar studies have performed: Small studies and art-therapy research have reported reductions in anxiety and pain with mandala coloring in clinical settings, but the evidence is limited and not yet definitive.
