What this trial studies

The study enrolls undergraduate midwifery students with significant PMS symptoms and divides them into three groups: mandala coloring, music listening, and a no-intervention control, targeting 36 participants per group (108 total). The mandala group will color mandalas twice weekly for 8 weeks, while the music group will listen to classical music twice daily for 30 minutes over the same period. Outcome measures (Premenstrual Syndrome Scale and WHOQOL-BREF-TR) are collected at baseline, week 4, and week 8, and data will be analyzed using SPSS. Inclusion requires a PMSS score of 110 or higher, enrollment at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Health Sciences, and internet access.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Undergraduate midwifery students at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa who are 18 or older, have internet access, and score 110 or higher on the PMSS.

Not a fit: People under 18, those with recent changes in menstrual cycle characteristics, or those not enrolled as midwifery students at the study site would not be eligible and thus would not receive benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, these simple, low-cost activities could reduce PMS symptoms and improve quality of life for participating students without medication.

How similar studies have performed: Small prior studies of art therapy and music for stress and menstrual symptoms have reported benefits, but high-quality evidence specifically for mandala coloring or classical-music listening in PMS is limited and mixed.
