Managing Stress and Blood Pressure for Caregivers
Self-Care and Blood Pressure for Women Caregivers of Black and African-Americans With Alzheimer's Disease or Other Memory Problems *
NA · Ohio State University · NCT05734638

What this trial studies
This project aims to develop effective interventions to reduce cardiovascular health disparities and improve health outcomes among African American women caregivers of individuals living with dementia. It will test two interventions, Mindfulness in Motion (MIM) combined with the DASH diet, against MIM alone and DASH alone, to assess their effectiveness in improving hypertension self-care and reducing caregiver stress. The study will utilize a small-scale, three-group randomized controlled trial design to evaluate the feasibility of these interventions in enhancing health behaviors among the target population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are African American women aged 40 and older who are caregivers for individuals living with dementia and have a diagnosis of hypertension.
Not a fit: Patients with resistant hypertension or those currently participating in mindfulness or yoga programs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the health and well-being of African American women caregivers by enhancing their ability to manage stress and hypertension.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been successful interventions targeting caregiver stress, this specific approach combining stress management and hypertension self-care is novel and untested.
