What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) in patients with combined patellofemoral and medial compartment knee osteoarthritis. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either OWHTO with or without arthroscopic partial lateral patellar facetectomy. The surgical procedure involves a thorough examination of the knee joint and potential treatment of any concurrent pathologies. The aim is to assess the outcomes of these surgical interventions in improving knee function and alleviating pain.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 35-60 with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis and specific anatomical criteria.

Not a fit: Patients with advanced osteoarthritis requiring total knee replacement or those with significant deformities or inflammatory diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve pain relief and functional outcomes for patients with knee osteoarthritis.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with similar surgical approaches, indicating potential for success in this trial.
