What this trial studies

This study evaluates various surgical management techniques for odontogenic keratocysts, including decompression/marsupialization, enucleation, and combinations with chemical cauterization and peripheral ostectomy. The goal is to determine the most effective approach to minimize recurrence rates of these cysts. Participants will be followed for a period of 10 years to assess outcomes such as total resolution, partial resolution, and recurrence. The study aims to clarify the best practices in managing this contentious pathological phenomenon in the maxillofacial region.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with odontogenic keratocysts who are undergoing one of the specified surgical treatments.

Not a fit: Patients who have undergone resection or have cyst-like lesions or neoplastic transformations will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for odontogenic keratocysts, reducing recurrence and enhancing patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been various approaches to managing odontogenic keratocysts, this study aims to provide a comprehensive comparison of established methods, making it a valuable addition to existing literature.
