Magnetic localization of sentinel nodes in oral cancer

Diagnostic Value of Sentinel Node Biopsy Guided by Magnetic Probe in Squamous Cell Oral Carcinoma: a Prospective Observational Study

Observational Hospital Donostia · NCT06261983

What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of magnetic localization for sentinel node biopsy in patients with early-stage squamous cell oral carcinoma. By injecting superparamagnetic iron oxide near the tumor, the technique aims to accurately identify sentinel nodes with minimal complications. The study analyzes the diagnostic performance of this method in a cohort of 23 patients, achieving a high localization success rate. The findings suggest that this magnetic approach could serve as a reliable alternative to traditional methods.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with T1-T2 oral squamous cell carcinoma who have no signs of lymph node involvement.

Not a fit: Patients who have undergone previous neck surgery or are on iron chelation therapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this technique could improve the accuracy of cancer staging and treatment planning for patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with similar magnetic localization techniques, indicating potential for success in this approach.
