What this trial studies

This observational study aims to develop a machine learning algorithm to predict the success of expectant or medical management for first trimester miscarriages. By analyzing a retrospective cohort of approximately 1000 cases, the study will collect various clinical features such as maternal demographics, previous medical history, and ultrasound measurements. The goal is to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of the decision aid by validating the algorithm with prospective data across multiple sites. The study will take place over a minimum of three years at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include women with missed or incomplete miscarriages under 14 weeks of gestation.

Not a fit: Patients with unavailable final outcome data will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this tool could provide personalized management options for patients experiencing first trimester miscarriages, potentially improving outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing machine learning for clinical decision support have shown promise, indicating potential for success in this approach.
