What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of various lung cancer screening strategies, specifically focusing on low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in high-risk individuals aged 45-75. It aims to validate previous findings that showed a significant increase in early-stage lung cancer detection through LDCT compared to usual care. The study involves recruiting 100,000 participants who will undergo baseline and two biennial LDCT screenings, with follow-up assessments for lung cancer incidence and mortality. Additionally, blood samples will be collected for future research purposes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 45-75 with a history of significant smoking, family history of cancer, or exposure to carcinogens.

Not a fit: Patients who have had a chest CT scan in the past 12 months or a history of any cancer within the last 5 years may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve early detection of lung cancer, leading to better patient outcomes and reduced mortality rates.

How similar studies have performed: Previous versions of this study have shown success in increasing early-stage lung cancer detection rates, indicating a promising approach.
