Low-level laser to help soft tissue and bone heal after impacted lower wisdom tooth removal

Effects of Low-level Laser Therapy on Soft and Hard Tissue Healing After Impacted Mandibular Third Molar Extraction

Not applicable Interventional University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City · NCT07190950

What this trial studies

This interventional study enrolls adults undergoing extraction of impacted mandibular third molars at a single academic center. After standard surgical extraction involving flap reflection and bone removal, participants will receive low-level laser therapy applied to the socket and surrounding soft tissues according to the study protocol. Investigators will track post-operative outcomes such as pain, swelling, soft-tissue healing, periodontal status distal to the second molar, and alveolar bone preservation over follow-up visits. The work is conducted at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Healthy adults (age 18+) who need extraction of impacted lower (mandibular) wisdom teeth—ideally with both sides affected—are the intended participants.

Not a fit: People with systemic conditions that impair healing, those who only need a single extraction, or patients unable to attend the Ho Chi Minh City site are less likely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If effective, the therapy could reduce post-extraction pain and swelling and help preserve alveolar bone, leading to faster, more comfortable recoveries.

How similar studies have performed: Previous small trials and clinical reports of low-level laser therapy after tooth extraction have shown some reductions in pain and swelling and occasional bone-healing benefits, but results across studies are inconsistent.
