What this trial studies

This open, pre-post feasibility trial delivers a series of short training videos to parents via a popular messaging platform and measures engagement, usability, and satisfaction. The videos teach antecedent- and reinforcement-based behavior management techniques and model them in common challenging situations such as transitions and delayed rewards. Parents complete measures before and after the program to track changes in parenting practices and targeted child behaviors. The investigators expect moderate pre-post improvements based on prior in-person parent training literature.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are parents or primary caregivers who understand Japanese and have a 4–10‑year‑old child who shows inattentive, hyperactive, or impulsive behaviors and struggles with daily routines.

Not a fit: Families who do not speak Japanese, whose children do not show the targeted behaviors, or whose child requires more intensive clinical intervention are less likely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help parents adopt practical behavioral strategies that reduce children's everyday behavior problems while increasing access to support via an easy-to-use texting format.

How similar studies have performed: Traditional in-person behavioral parent training has shown moderate-to-large benefits and some digital adaptations have been promising, but delivering video lessons via text is a relatively new approach.
