Longitudinal study on neuropathic pain and its effects on brain function
A Multi-center Clinical Longitudinal Study of Neuropathic Pain by Collecting Data on Patients' Brain Physiology and Cognitive Function
Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine · NCT06290024
This study is trying to see how living with neuropathic pain affects brain function and thinking over time in people who experience it.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to collect data on patients experiencing neuropathic pain by assessing various factors including brain physiology and cognitive function. Participants will undergo a series of evaluations using pain scales, cognitive assessments, and brain imaging techniques such as EEG and fNIRS. The study will track dynamic changes in these factors over time to better understand the relationship between pain and cognitive processes. By gathering comprehensive data, the study seeks to provide insights into the complexities of neuropathic pain.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 85 who have clinically diagnosed neuropathic pain with a pain score of 4 or higher.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have neuropathic pain or have participated in other drug or medical device trials within the last three months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of neuropathic pain and lead to improved management strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on neuropathic pain, this specific approach of combining multiple assessment methods in a longitudinal design is relatively novel.
