Longitudinal research on development and quality of life in preterm infants
Development, ADL, Participation, and Quality of Life in Preterm Infants: Longitudinal Research
This study looks at how preterm infants grow and develop in their first three years of life to see how their health and daily activities improve after leaving the hospital.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on preterm infants, defined as those born before 37 weeks of gestation, and aims to understand their developmental patterns in function and participation in life activities as they grow. The research will track infants aged 0-3 years to assess their health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and daily living activities after leaving the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). By utilizing the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health-Children and Youth Version (ICF-CY) framework, the study seeks to identify potential secondary conditions and optimize rehabilitation strategies for these infants. The findings may help caregivers and healthcare providers anticipate and manage developmental challenges faced by preterm infants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are infants born preterm (less than 37 weeks gestation) who are aged 0-3 years and whose caregivers can communicate in Mandarin Chinese.
Not a fit: Patients with acute health conditions or those whose caregivers cannot communicate in Mandarin Chinese may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of developmental trajectories in preterm infants, leading to improved rehabilitation strategies and better quality of life outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this study builds on existing knowledge of preterm infant development, it employs a longitudinal approach that may provide novel insights into their quality of life and functional recovery.
