What this trial studies
The CALERIE Legacy Study is an observational follow-up of participants from the CALERIE trial, which investigated the effects of calorie restriction on health. This study aims to determine if the benefits observed during the two-year calorie restriction intervention are sustained 10 to 15 years later. Participants will undergo clinical assessments, dietary recalls, and laboratory evaluations of blood and urine samples. Additionally, there is an optional component for biospecimen banking to support future research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who participated in the CALERIE trial and are willing to attend in-person visits for assessments.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, postpartum, or have active cancer or terminal illness may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the long-term health benefits of calorie restriction and its impact on aging.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies on calorie restriction have shown promising results, making this follow-up both relevant and potentially impactful.
