What this trial studies

Adults with self-reported darkened lips will apply the investigational lip product twice daily for seven days and avoid other lip products during the study. Researchers will compare objective baseline measurements (such as imaging) and participant perceptions before and after the 7-day treatment period. The study is conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University, with screening to exclude lip abnormalities, recent medication use, or known allergies to the product. Outcomes focus on changes in appearance and subjective perception of lip hyperpigmentation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Thai adults aged 18–60 who are bothered by darkened lips, can refrain from other lip products for seven days, have no lip abnormalities, and have no known allergy to Caulerpa lentillifera or recent medication use.

Not a fit: People with lip malformations, active inflammation or sores, known allergy to Caulerpa lentillifera, or who have taken medications within the prior month are unlikely to benefit from this product.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the product could provide a simple, noninvasive cosmetic option to reduce lip hyperpigmentation.

How similar studies have performed: While topical natural extracts have shown limited promise for skin pigmentation generally, using Caulerpa lentillifera specifically for lip hyperpigmentation is relatively novel and has limited prior clinical data.
