Linking blood inflammation markers and chest CT findings in adults with stable bronchiectasis who frequently flare

Correlation of Inflammatory Markers and Radiological Findings in Stable Bronchiectasis Patients With Exacerbation Phenotype

Sohag University · NCT07495982

What this trial studies

This observational project will enroll adults (≥18) with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis confirmed by high-resolution CT and characterize their exacerbation phenotype. Participants who are clinically stable will have blood inflammatory markers measured and their recent HRCT scans reviewed. Investigators will look for correlations between biomarker levels, specific radiological features, and the history of frequent exacerbations (≥2 per year). All activities are observational and conducted without experimental treatments at the Faculty of Medicine, Sohag University.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (≥18) with HRCT-confirmed non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, particularly those with a history of two or more exacerbations per year and who are clinically stable at sampling, are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with cystic fibrosis-related bronchiectasis, active pulmonary tuberculosis, advanced hepatic or renal failure, current immunosuppressive therapy, or those unwilling to participate are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help identify simple blood markers that signal higher risk of exacerbations and guide closer monitoring or more personalized care.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have reported some links between inflammatory markers and imaging severity in bronchiectasis, but results have been inconsistent and this approach is not yet validated for routine care.
