What this trial studies
Researchers developed a LINE@ online platform to track and follow up with college and university students involved in illegal drug use. Effectiveness indicators were collected using structured questionnaires covering family functioning, severity of substance dependence, motivation for change, and emotional health management. The study also gathered student user evaluations of the LINE@ platform to measure usability and acceptability. Participants were college students aged 18 or older, recruited at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, with past illegal drug use confirmed by urine screening or reliable self-report.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are college or university students aged 18 or older with a history of illegal drug use confirmed by urine testing or reliable self-report.
Not a fit: Students under 18, those without access to LINE or a smartphone, or individuals with severe substance dependence who require intensive clinical or inpatient treatment may not benefit from this platform alone.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the platform could provide an accessible way to monitor students' drug-related risks and support behavior change earlier and at scale.
How similar studies have performed: Other digital and messaging-based interventions for substance use have shown mixed but promising effects on engagement and outcomes, while LINE@ use in this specific population is relatively novel.
