What this trial studies
This study investigates the long-term effects of a tailored light intervention on cognition, sleep, and metabolism in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild Alzheimer's disease. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the tailored light intervention or a comparison control treatment at home over a six-month period. The study aims to determine if this light treatment can improve sleep quality, reduce inflammation, enhance insulin sensitivity, and ultimately improve cognitive function in individuals suffering from sleep disturbances. The research is conducted at the Mount Sinai Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and includes participants living at home.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with mild cognitive impairment or mild Alzheimer's disease who experience sleep disturbances and live at home.
Not a fit: Patients who are blind, have insulin-dependent diabetes, macular degeneration, or severe sleep apnea may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve cognitive function and metabolic health in patients with mild Alzheimer's disease and related conditions.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with light interventions for cognitive and metabolic improvements, suggesting potential success for this approach.
