What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of laser acupuncture at specific acupoints in alleviating dry eye symptoms in patients with Sjögren's Syndrome-related dry eye and non-Sjögren's Syndrome-related dry eye. A total of 140 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either active or placebo laser acupuncture over an 8-week period, with assessments conducted using various ocular health metrics. The study aims to determine if adding laser acupuncture to standard care can improve patient outcomes compared to a control group.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20 to 75 with diagnosed dry eye syndrome, including those with Sjögren's Syndrome.

Not a fit: Patients with active eye inflammation, infectious eye diseases, or those who have undergone eye surgery may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel treatment option for patients suffering from dry eye symptoms.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on laser acupuncture specifically for dry eye, similar acupuncture approaches have shown promise in treating various conditions, suggesting potential for success in this novel application.
