Kinesio taping to help breathing and sleep in people with obesity
Effects of Thoracic Kinesio Taping on Pulmonary Function, Respiratory Muscle Strength, and Sleep Quality in Obese and Overweight Individuals
This will test whether kinesio taping combined with diaphragmatic breathing can improve breathing and sleep in adults who are overweight or have class 1–2 obesity.

What this trial studies
This interventional trial enrolls adults aged 18–70 who are overweight or have class 1–2 obesity and can follow instructions in Turkish. Participants will receive kinesio taping and practice diaphragmatic breathing exercises, with measurements taken of respiratory function and sleep-related outcomes. People with acute or chronic pulmonary disease, uncontrolled chronic illness, or a tape allergy are excluded. The protocol aims to see if a noninvasive, low-risk physical intervention can change lung mechanics and sleep measures in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults 18–70 who are overweight or have class 1–2 obesity, can speak Turkish, and can follow study procedures without a history of chronic pulmonary disease are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People with acute or chronic pulmonary disease, uncontrolled chronic illnesses, an allergy to kinesio tape, or those with more severe obesity beyond class 2 are unlikely to benefit from this protocol.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could offer a low-risk way to improve lung function and sleep quality for people with mild-to-moderate obesity.
How similar studies have performed: Kinesio taping has shown mixed small-scale benefits for musculoskeletal and some respiratory applications, but using it specifically to improve breathing and sleep in obesity is relatively novel and not well established.
