Investigation of COVID-19 infection rates in Gabon
Population-based Age-stratified Seroepidemiological Investigation of Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) Infection in Gabon
This study is trying to see how many people in Gabon have been infected with COVID-19 without showing symptoms to better understand the virus and why fewer people are dying from it in Africa.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Gabon, focusing on asymptomatic individuals who may contribute to the spread of the virus. Utilizing ELISA and multiparametric flow cytometry, the study will quantify antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and analyze immune responses in the population. Data on clinical status will be collected and classified according to WHO guidelines, with statistical analysis conducted by a qualified statistician. The findings will provide crucial insights into the immune response to COVID-19 in Gabon and help explain the lower mortality rates observed in African countries.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged one year and older who have resided in the study area for more than three months.
Not a fit: Patients who have not lived in the locality for at least three months or those who refuse to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of COVID-19 immunity and inform public health strategies in Gabon and similar regions.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in seroprevalence investigations in different regions, indicating the potential for valuable insights from this approach.
