Investigating the Role of Cholesterol and Carotid Thickness in Liver Disease
The Significance of Remnant Cholesterol and Carotid Intima Media Thickness in Patients With MAFLD
This study is trying to see if cholesterol levels and the thickness of neck arteries can help us understand how serious liver disease is in adults with fatty liver disease.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the significance of remnant cholesterol and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in patients diagnosed with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). It will involve adult patients who present to a fibroscan clinic and will analyze their lipid profiles alongside CIMT measurements to understand their relationship with the severity of MAFLD. The study seeks to elucidate how these factors may contribute to cardiovascular risks associated with MAFLD, which is often linked to metabolic syndrome. By examining these associations, the research hopes to provide insights into the management of MAFLD and its cardiovascular implications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with MAFLD and are presenting to a fibroscan clinic.
Not a fit: Patients with known previous cardiac disease, liver cirrhosis, septic conditions, or malignancies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of cardiovascular risks in patients with MAFLD, leading to better management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of remnant cholesterol and CIMT in MAFLD is less explored, previous studies have indicated significant associations between NAFLD and cardiovascular risks, suggesting potential for meaningful insights.
